Human Relations Day is a special Sunday celebrated by the United Methodist Church to promote better human relations by involving congregations in community and youth outreach. It is observed on the Sunday before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, which falls on January 14, 2024. The day is marked by a special offering that contributes to building Dr. King’s vision of “the beloved community” through programs such as Community Developers and United Methodist Voluntary Services and Youth Offender Rehabilitation Programs. The funds received for the offering are used to strengthen racial-ethnic minority congregations, challenge unjust political, social, and economic systems, and empower youth participation in their communities through churches, mentoring programs, and boys/girls clubs.
